Originally from Innerkip, Ontario, Derek has competed competitively at both the high school and university level, winning the OFSAA silver medal in doubles in 2014. Derek's main focus as a coach is to develop students' love and passion for the game, while making the learning process as enjoyable and efficient as possible.

Outside of tennis, Derek is also an avid entrepreneur, musician, and artist.
